From a post at Innovation Weblog

The top 10 catalysts for best ideas are:

    1. When you’re inspired
    2. Brainstorming with others
    3. When you’re immersed in a project
    4. When you’re happy
    5. Collaborating with a partner
    6. Daydreaming
    7. Analyzing a problem
    8. Driving
    9. Commuting to and from work
    10. Reading books in your field

In their analysis, Tim Moore and Mitch Ditkoff discovered an intriguing paradox: creative people seem to have a need for solitary retreat and reflection, but also enjoy opportunities to collaborate and brainstorm with others.

Where do you get your best ideas? And how do you capture them?

    1. Kate Davis Says:

I get a lot of my ideas in the shower, however capturing them is a problem. I know some people have pads of waterproof paper in their showers, but I haven’t gone that far yet.

    2. Phil Stanoch Says:

I find that a lot of my ideas come while I am driving. When this happens, I pick up my phone and speed dial Jott. When I get home, I can read them in my gmail account. Works great!

    3. Stephen Says:

I love Jott, I do the same thing!

    4. Simon Hill Says:

I certainly remember a lot of things in the shower which I find frustrating as, like Kate, I haven’t yet come up with a good capture solution! Similar to Phil I capture ideas that I have while driving on my BlackBerry with a cool voice app called VR+ which then emails them to me (or anyone else I choose). Poor man’s Jott for those of us outside the US :) …However my most creative thinking seems to come when I go walking around our area. I take something with me to at least capture the gist now so I can run with it when I’m back home.

    5. @Stephen Says:

      >>Simon, that is good to hear. The capture device (whatever it is) is so very important.
