Productivity Tools and More

Welcome back! It's good to see you again. Please note that I am now publishing all new material at my hub site: In Context Blog

My friend Leo from ZenHabits has put together something new and exciting, an e-book resource called Web Warrior Tools . This new project is a partnership with blogger Glen Stansberry from LifeDev.

Billed as a set of ‘ridiculously useful e-book guides to everything’, Leo and Glen begin with these 4 titles:

1. The Beginner’s Guide to Podcasting - a “how-to” book for learning about podcasting. I am especially interested in this one!

2. Email Zen- e-mail management with a twist.

3. The Get Rich Slowly Guide to Roth IRAs - a basic financial planning resource, it’s never to early to think about retirement!

4. Secrets to a Healthy Life - Tips and advice for people that want to jump-start a healthy lifestyle.

This is just the beginning of what is going to be an extensive library of e-books. The e-books are inexpensive ($9 or less), they’ve been well-designed and are written by experienced bloggers. There is even a preview of them right on the site to get a feel for them before you buy them.

Leo and Glen are on the cutting edge of Web 2.0 with Web Warrior Tools. I believe that joining together to create this resource is going to be the first in a series of new business ideas that hit the internet this year. You can even get involved as a Web Warrior Tools affiliate.

Good morning all, I have a guest post up at Slacker Manager today. It is the third installment of the Leadership series for the  month of May.

It’s a little different from what I normally write about, so please check it out, and leave a comment. I would love to hear what you think.

GTD Cafe: Filling the Leadership Void with Next Action Thinking

May 28th, 2008 by thedailysaint

If you haven’t caught up with Leadership Journal in a while, their recent edition focuses on teams and how they lead. I was especially fascinated by an article about how one church went from a one pastor model to a team approach of four men who lead together.

Can you imagine if every church was led by four instead of one? Blows your mind doesn‘t it?

The featured church, Next Level Church in Denver, explained how their model allows for deeper service, more humility, greater accountability and a healthy buffer in case one leader falls. It also allows for a community to get things done. Maybe, just maybe, it decreases the amount of ‘leadership complaining’.

All of us complain about our leaders. I just wish they would do more of this… Why can’t he be more like… It drives me crazy when… When you practice GTD, you are putting next-action thinking into play. You stop looking around and wondering why it isn‘t moving fast enough and

you
start
making it happen.

This of course builds you up as someone who actually produces results. You are then able to do the work of four instead of one.

Shooting for the Stars

May 27th, 2008 by Stephen

The Earth from SpaceEarly last year I wrote a post about getting a grip on “the total reality of your job“. At the time my life was very different from what it is now!

My wife and I have moved across the country since then, and both of us have new jobs. Coming to grips with this situation was difficult for me at first, since we moved in order for her to be able to advance her career (and be closer to her family). It took me almost five months to find a full-time gig that paid decent!

I just had my 90-day evaluation with BigCorp last week, and so I thought that this might be a good time to brush up on my situation. I hate to think that I define myself by the work that I do, but to an extent it is true. The tricky part is, I do not just have one “job” anymore…I need to get a grip on the total reality of each part of my work life.

What is the total reality of the work that I do? Let’s go ahead and review the answers to these questions from the previous article:

  1. What are my current tasks? I have a long list of posts to write, including book reviews and product reviews, I have 5 meetings scheduled, and I have some more paperwork to process. Always with the paperwork.
  2. What are my current projects? These include coaching employees, recruiting new applicants, writing content for the training programs, working on the werbsite network, doing all of the design and FTP stuff.
  3. What are my current roles or responsibilities? Trainer, Manager, Editor, Writer, Consultant, Speaker, Husband, Friend
  4. How will my job and personal affairs look one year from now? One year from now I plan to be working even more than I am now, but working on things that I really enjoy and can set my own timetable for.
  5. What changes to my career and personal life are coming over the next 3-5 years? Increasing levels of financial independence, more free time to spend on fun and family, the ability to do my work from anywhere in the world.
  6. What exactly is my purpose here on Earth? This is a really big question, but part of the answer is, “To teach people how to use basic tools and simple practices for taking control of their workflow situation.” And of course to make that, in turn, a business of my own,

Now what?

Take a look at this site, folks [link]. It is my new portal for In Context MultiMedia - a business site that will incorporate some of the content that you read here, and have much more. What do you see there that interests you?

What kinds of things would you like to see in the future? Leave a comment.
