I have spent a great deal of time thinking about the past and the future over the last few days. “Am I doing the right thing right now?” is the question that I have been asking myself, in the larger context of my life. The answer is: almost.
Put your Passion to work for you
Instead of working to support my passion, I need to be putting my passion to work, using the higher level of motivation that it gives me to accomplish more in less time. In turn, this will allow me to have more time for my wife and other interests. This leads to the first method of actually discovering what it is that you are passionate about:
Ask someone who knows you well - Instead of navel-gazing, ask your friend, spouse, room-mate, or partner what they think of when they think about you. You may be surprised.
Think of the times in your life that your felt most exuberant and alive - What were you doing that made you feel that way? This may help identify your passions.
When someone cannot find you, what do they assume you are doing? What does this say about you and your passions?
Imagine yourself with unlimited money and time - What would you do with these resources? If there were no way that you could fail, what would you do?
Does your home or workspace reveal your interests? Look around you right now, is there any indication that would lead an outside observer to think “Wow, this person must really be into _____!”
Do something about it right now. Take out a pen and paper and do this exercise while you are thinking about it. Take five minutes and think about what you are passionate about. Then you should do two things that will make a difference in your life:
- Tell someone about it. Leave a Comment below and let us all know what you are passionate about, what would you do with unlimited time and money?
- Schedule your Next Action. Put into your “To Do” list one thing that you can do today to get closer to the goal you just wrote down.
Make your Passion work for you, if you can believe it you can achieve it, one step at a time.
Your work is to discover your work
and then with all your heart
to give yourself to it.~Buddha
