Ask the Readers

Welcome back! It's good to see you again. Please note that I am now publishing all new material at my hub site: In Context Blog

Welcome new Subscribers! There was quite a bit of action here at HD BizBlog yesterday, and about 20 new readers subscribed to the feed. Thank you for your interest! I mention this because next month is going to see a new event take place here on the Internets. On 15 October thousands of bloggers will be posting on one topic, with a combined RSS subscribership that exceeds one million readers.

I have joined the Blog Action Day movement, set to launch on 15 October. “What is Blog Action Day?” you ask, well from the organizer’s page:

Bloggers can participate on Blog Action Day in one of two ways:

  1. Publish a post on their blog which relates to an issue of their own choice pertaining to the environment. For example: A blog about money might write about how to save around the home by using environmentally friendly ideas. Similarly a blog about politics might examine what weight environmental policy holds in the political arena.Posts do not need to have any specific agenda, they simply need to relate to the larger issue in whatever way suits the blogger and readership. Our aim is not to promote one particular viewpoint, only to push the issue to the table for discussion.
  2. Commit to donating their day’s advertising earnings to an environmental charity of their choice. There is a list of “official” Blog Action Day charities on the site, however bloggers are also free to choose an alternate environmental charity to donate to if they wish.

So the question for you, dear readers, is which direction would you prefer that I take? Which of the following options would you prefer to read about:

  1. How you can affect the environment in a positive way through your own personal productivity practices?
  2. What does New Media and the Future of Work portend for the environment in the short- and long-term future?
  3. Or, get a glimpse of my own personal viewpoint on Climate Change?

I have stayed away from “Issues” and politics on this site, for the simple reason that the topics that I choose to write about have no political slant. I do not want to alienate any of my readership because I shoot off at the mouth on my own political opinions.

I am committed to building the greater community through participation and discussion. I am a “Futurist” of sorts, and I am very excited about the potential of the world of tomorrow. Please leave your votes in the Comments, and don’t forget to subscribe to the RSS Feed so you don’t miss anything.

Thank you for your participation.

    I’ll go with option #2.

I have also signed up to Blog Action Day and as an environmental consultant I’m having a similar issue to you deciding what to write about. At the moment I’m thinking of doing something very loosely linked to your suggestion 1.

I would be interested in you writing about 1 or 3 as I’m always looking for more organisation tips and if they link to reducing my negative environmental impact that is even better, plus I am always intrigued by other people’s views on environmental issues although I have to admit I’m a little tired of climate change - am I allowed to say that?

Thank you for the prompt suggestions!
@Kate - you are definitely allowed to say that, I believe that skepticism and deliberate thought are much more important to this issue than hysteria, money-grubbing, and power-mongering.
